Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 247 amends Chapter 6 of Title 40 of the OCGA to change discretionary fines to uniform fines in distracted driving offenses. The bill additionally removes a provision that allowed first offenders to show the court that they obtained a device designed to help them drive with focus and be deemed not guilty as a result.
